Marco Tamburini at the Barga Jazz Club
Mega concert last night at the Barga Jazz Club in Barga Vecchia. One of Italy’s foremost young jazz trumpet players, Marco Tamburini showed just why he is held in such high esteem.
A packed jazz club watched, without a doubt, one of the best concerts this year.
It wasn’t just the sounds coming out of the trumpet of Marco as he ran through a rich palette of tones and colours but also the interaction with the other musicians around him as they wove a complex and sometimes startling tonal tapestry that simultaneously enchanted and surprised the audience. Complex loops and rhythms held for all to see, used as a backdrop for Marco’s trumpet and then discarded as they moved on to something else. Rich music, great musicians, wonderful night. Barge Jazz Club (and Barga as a whole) should be proud of the fact that they can put on concerts of this calibre.

Marco Tamburini - Nato il 30 maggio 1959 a Cesena, si è diplomato in tromba nel 1979 presso il Conservatorio Martini di Bologna e ha fatto il suo esordio sulla scena jazz italiana nei primi anni ottanta.
Nel corso della sua carriera ha condiviso il palco con alcuni dei più noti jazzisti italiani, tra i quali Gianni Basso, Franco Ambrosetti, Pietro Tonolo, Giovanni Tommaso, Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Gianluigi Trovesi, Dado Moroni, Giorgio Gaslini, Danilo Rea e Stefano Bollani.
Numerose sono anche le sue collaborazioni, dal vivo o in studio, con celebri musicisti d’oltreoceano come Eddie Henderson, Sal Nistico, Steve Coleman, Ray Mantilla, Joe Lovano, Steve Lacy, Louis Heyes, Ben Sidran, Curtis Fuller, Slide Hampton, Paul Jeffrey, Gary Bartz, George Cables, Ray Drummond, Billy Hart, Cameron Brown e Jimmy Cobb. Da qualche anno inoltre collabora stabilmente con il chitarrista francese Christian Escoudé.
Ha partecipato, a capo dei propri gruppi o come sideman, a tutti i più importanti festival jazz internazionali, tra i quali Umbria Jazz, Siena Jazz, Roma Jazz Festival, Eurofestival di Ivrea, Dubai Jazz Festival, Jazz Wochen di Basilea, North Carolina International Jazz Festival e Wiesen Jazz Festival .
Si è esibiito in tutta Italia e nel mondo mondo in clubs e teatri prestigiosi, come il Blue Note di Milano, il Birdland di New York, il Sunset Club di Parigi e il Teatro Megaro di Atene.
Parallelamente a questa intensa attività in ambito jazzistico ha lavorato anche come turnista per molti cantanti pop, tra cui Raf, Vinicio Capossela e Jovanotti. Con la sua sezione fiati ha accompagnato George Michael e Grace Jones nelle edizioni 2000 e 2004 del Pavarotti International.
