Jon Lane, a painter from England walked into Barga back in 2003. He found himself some studio space and started working on a series of paintings (images here) about the light falling on the City and countryside around. In May 2004 he exhibited his finished paintings in a spectacular exhibition (images here) at the Comune Gallery and then he packed up his brushes and paints and (unfortunately for Barga) moved on.
There followed work in more Northern climes – paintings created in Venice and then exhibited in London and then he kind of disappeared off the “art radar” for a while.
This morning there was a blip on that radar loud and clear – Jon has been living and painting in Morocco for the past year and is having an exhibition of his latest work bathed once more in Southern light – in Fès in Morocco at the Orientalist Art Gallery.
