Standing room only, this evening in the Barga Jazz Club, for an interesting evening in the company of Mary Landon Campbell who has lived for many years in Tiglio just above Barga . The title of the talk, which was organised by the group, Barga Events was "Experience and projects in Siria" and was a very personal view of life in a small part of Syria, by Mary, who has spent the last four years travelling backwards and forwards to that area. Most listeners this evening were struck by her powerful, emotional description of an area and lifestyle which many have never experienced first-hand. She described a peaceful country where she as a European woman in her mid-60s travelling alone, felt absolutely safe and was welcomed into the Syrian community. The poignancy of her words was not lost on the audience who were all aware that only five weeks ago, Mary Landon, was the victim of a violent assault in this area.
