The Barga Jazz Club was supposed to be shut this evening but anybody passing by would have been surprised by the amount of activity going on behind the doors of the club.The Lake Angels were in action. Over the past few weeks they have been preparing their annual Christmas baskets to sell for charity. The vendemmia has produced bottles of red wine (article here) plus some fine grappa (article here)  The oil harvest this year has been badly hit by an insect infestation of most of the olive trees in this area but the chestnut season has been good and so included in the baskets are products made from the chestnut flour.

So just who are the Lake Angels ? Once a year a group of young (and not so young) men of Barga leave their respective partners and trek over the mountain out of Tuscany into Reggio Emilia to spend a night at Lago Santo.
