Back in July, we published an article about the Mr. Pitiful soul Band who had just played a blinding set in the piazza for the Festa delle Piazza ( you can read that article here) That evening somebody posted a comment on that page saying how much they had enjoyed that band and asking just who was the girl singer who joined them on stage for a couple of numbers towards the end of the set:
“This Detroit-raised, Motown-bred Barga resident hasn’t heard better soul since he left the Motor City back in ‘65. Stupendo. Grazie ragazzi. E anche ragazza — chi e questa splendida Tiziana?- the answer to that question has been a kind of semi-secret for the last couple of years as she would often appear at the Mr.Pitiful gigs, sing a couple of sings and then melt back into the audience but tonight at the Barga Jazz Club all was revealed as finally she came out of the shadows and into the light with her own band – Melanina. Please welcome Tiziana Noccioli.
She was joined on stage by Matteo Pieri on guitar plus three members of Mr Pitiful; Fabio Pierotti – guitar, Fabrizio Leone on bass and Andrea Gianelli on drums. Another member of Mr Pitiful – Simon Venturi on keyboards joined in on one number as did Geoff from Jack’s Pack with a thumping blues harp solo but the star of the evening, even taking into account some terrible mix on her vocals was Tiziana.
