Spend any time in front of a television recently or reading most newspapers or even browsing the Internet and you could quite naturally assume that we are all tottering on the brink of a huge recession. There are even those who claim that we are talking ourselves into a recession. Instead this afternoon, a positive sign, a positive way of thinking, and hopefully a positive way of avoiding any encroaching recession real or imagined. A new business has opened in Barga Giardino – a clothes shop. The proprietor proudly opened her new endeavour to the sound of champagne corks popping, clinking glasses and the background chatter from her excited sales staff and a healthy mix of new customers milling through the shop.
Svetlana Lavlinskaya left her native Russia and came to Barga seven years ago in January 2001. She defines living in Barga as "being in paradise" but never thought in her wildest dreams that she would be the proprietor of a clothes shop in the city. In fact she was a loyal customer in the shop run by Daniela Biagioni and only found out recently that the shop was in fact up for sale. She telephoned her son, still living and working in Russia for a vodka company and her daughter who works as a model in Milan and between them when they heard that the shop was called "Boutique Babirussa" decided that all the signs were right and that the premises were just right for a change of profession and the launch of a new dream.
All the staff here at barganews wish Svetlana all the best in her new enterprise
