Silvio Berlusconi celebrated an election comeback triumph last night, putting him back in charge of the world’s seventh biggest economy for a third term as the centre-left failed to summon the unity to stop him. Mr Berlusconi told his “post-Fascist” partner and former deputy prime minister Gianfranco Fini of his “profound satisfaction” at the result.
Here in Barga it was a different story though – a large turnout with nearly 82% of the voters eligible to vote making their marks on the ballot papers in and around Barga continued to keep the left in power in this area. For the Camera dei Deputati – 2826 people – 44.09 % voted for the PD party of Walter Veltroni. Coming in second was the Berlusconi party – 2095 votes – 32.69 %

For the Senato della Repubblica is was more or less the same story with 2733 votes – 45.56% for Veltroni and 1979 – 32.99% for Berlusconi
