The players and supporters of the A.S. Barga football team have had a week to organise the celebrations, and you could tell that they had thought long and hard about how they wanted to celebrate finally winning promotion after being in the wilderness 13 years. Having won last weekend’s game whatever happened today made no difference – A.S. Barga were going up and there was nothing anybody could do to stop them. The flag-waving, horn blowing and drum banging started well before today’s match and kept on going well into the night. As the final whistle blew, the exuberant Barga fans piled into their cars and on to scooters, motorbikes, ape (the three wheeled versions) even bicycles and took to the streets to celebrate.

They then spent the next two hours riding in a noisy convoy around the whole valley pointing out to anyone who just happen to miss the news that A.S. Barga had just won their promotion. A slight accident between one of the scooters and an oncoming car on the Loppia Road did nothing to dent their enthusiasm and as the sun was going down they all trooped, still busily waving flags and sounding their horns back into Barga Giardino. While they were still on the road preparations were underway for the celebration party – the usual pizza, panini, beer and wine plus a special added ingredient and here came the surprise.
Out from a doorway stepped not one not two but six Brazilian dancers in full regalia – the sound system clicked in as very loud Brazilian music filled the Piazza and the party was on!

The barganews photographer left the scene just before midnight and it was still in full flow. There are going to be some very sore heads in the morning

Ore 16: gara Barga – Massarosa
