Possible disruption on barganews

geeksPlease be advised that SYN Hosting and our network provider in Canada has been identified as possible targets in an extortion attempt to bring down the entire network unless a large sum of money is paid. It is assumed that the extortionists will use a multi gigabit Denial of Service attack to flood our connections effectively denying legitimate traffic from reaching our servers.

We are taking this threat very seriously and already have counter measures in place to mitigate the attack as much as possible. Our network provider is already aware of these threats and has been preparing their own counter measures for a potential onslaught of malicious traffic. SYN Hosting is NOT the only company being targeted in this extortion attempt nor do we have any indication as to why we are being targeted.

Please note that it is very important to understand that large scale Denial of Service attacks that are in the gigabit range are EXTREMELY difficult to filter and should we be attacked it will likely disrupt service for several hours, or even longer.

We want to assure each and every one of you, that we will be working around the clock along with our network provider and their upstream providers to counter any attack and restore service as soon as possible if necessary.
