The first snow of the season fell on the mountains around Barga this weekend. Down at the level of Barga itself the weather was less than friendly with torrential rain cancelling the monthly market and causing some problems for the Festa dei Caduti but up at 1200 metres above sealevel on the sides of the Apuane and Appenini mountains in amongst the birch trees life took on a completely different hue as 20 centimteres of snow lay on the ground.
The winter has arrived and people eager to start the seasons skiing have already been up to see what the conditions are like at first hand.
They returned back to base this afternoon with photographic evidence of just what they had seen and in Aristo’s bar this evening the animated discussions had but one central topic – when would the snow be deep enough to get the skis out.
