Vegetable garden looking a bit bleak
It’s been quite some time since the last article about the barganews vegetable garden so let’s bring you back up to speed with what has been going on down in the fields – in short, very little. What should have been going on was the preparing of ground and seeding plants for the winter but unfortunately there are only a certain number of hours in a day and during August and September other priorities have has meant that the vegetable garden has taken second place.
More or less everything in the garden that could be collected has been picked, frozen, dried or put under oil and the place is now looking very barren.
There was an idea for making chutney using the last of the green tomatoes are were still about but that was shelved due to lack of time.
There are still some celery plants producing and one or two cabbages which managed to avoid the ravages of the cabbage white butterflies during the summer but that is about it.
Maybe we could start thinking about some covered areas for growing seeds and plants ready for the spring but for the moment – little energy to do anything constructive.
