There have been numerous articles about the Lake Angels on this site for many years, (most of which can be seen seen here )
One of their abiding interests has been with food and local food culture and this is self-evident by the series of events that they have organised going back over the years including in 2011, the best traditional castagnaccio – the classic sweet dish from this area made from chestnut flour (article here)
In 2009, they were involved in cooking and preparing Polenta which is made with ground yellow or white cornmeal, ground maize (article here ).
In 2009, they were interested in the wild mushroom Grifola frondosa, known in this area as the Grifone (article here)
And way back in 2007 they were all in Piazza Angelio busily preparing sausages (article here) and the Biroldo which is made from all of the parts of the pig which cannot be used for ham, joints, or in sausage making ….. in short – all of the scrap bits which are then boiled up in the blood. (article here)
Today in the piazza, the Angels were once again in evidence this time pooling all their resources and all their interests into one simple object – the Lake Angels Christmas hamper.
Polenta, olive oil, chestnuts, farro, honey, jam, local wine and even a bottle of the famous Lake Angels water – better known by its real title – locally distilled grappa, and all on offer at the remarkably low price of just €30.
All proceeds to charity of course, this year everything going to the GVS.[dw-post-more level=”1″]
