The winners of the Barga Jazz Contest 2013 were just announced and the surprise this evening is that both of the groups present this evening on the stage in Piazza Angelio – Urban Fabula and Mirko Pedtrotti Quintet share the prize.
The Luca Flores prize for best soloist was awarded to the pianist, Seby Burgio from the group Urban Fabula
Martedì 20 saranno di scena il trio siciliano Urban Fabula con Seby Burgio al pianoforte, Alberto Fidone al contrabbasso, Peppe Tringali alla batteria,
Urban Fabula is a project arising from the meeting of three young Sicilian musicians: Seby Burgio on piano, Alberto Fidone on double bass and Peppe Tringali on drums. Their first record, “Urban Fabula”, has just been released – it presents original compositions mainly arranged for “six hands”. The trio is intended to be a synthesis rather than just the sum of three individuals, in which each performer makes his own contribution in the pursuit of that synergy which drives and enhances the group. The exuberant and richly innovative playing of the twenty-one-year-old pianist, and the solidity of a fluid and ever unpredictable rhythmic section, are outstanding – the culmination of more than five years of collaboration. The trio has reached the finals at the European Jazz Contest and won the first ever “Pippo Ardini” prize. source
