As we published earlier this month (article here) renovation work has started on the doors of the Duomo.
The wood had been treated with chemicals to fight against woodworm and so had remained enclosed in plastic since then.
This morning work continued on repairing some of the damage which time and the elements have wreaked on the lower levels of the doors.
They were last worked on in 2002 when a grey coat of paint was added.
Renovation experts have now stripped away that paint in places and some the serious damage to the wooden doors close to the ground has now become fully revealed.
Although the damage is somewhat worse than expected, the renovation experts still maintain that they will probably have the doors finished and back in all their original splendour by Christmas.
