The Parco Kennedy just outside the main walls of Barga Vecchia has seen better days and was starting to look a “little shabby”.
Problems with the hydraulics had meant that the fountain no longer worked, the whole area was starting to look overgrown and fewer and fewer people were visiting what once was one of the attractions of Barga.
Things changed recently, a new children’s slide was installed, the overgrown grass was cut back and people once more were using the park.
More evidence of this new renaissance could be seen this morning as volunteers from the group “Le Donne di Barga per Barga” – “The women of Barga for Barga” repainted the wrought iron gates leading to the park which are now a shiny bright green colour matching the new Parco Kennedy sign which the Pro Loco had installed recently.
Parco Kennedy (“parco” means park in italian), properly known as “Parco Fratelli Kennedy” is a park situated in the centre of Barga.
It was named in honour of American President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert Kennedy, both of whom were assassinated.
“Le Donne di Barga per Barga” – “The women of Barga for Barga”have been hard at work making the city more presentable and ready for the influx of visitors as the warmer weather arrives – evidence of their work can be seen here and here
