Sunday on a crisp January afternoon in Barga Vecchia and most people are still sitting down to lunch or have finished, cleared away the plates and starting to think about maybe a relaxing walk in the bright sunlight.
But not everybody is thinking about enjoying their day off. Somebody up by the Duomo is actually working.
Instead of waiting for the comune to send workers to fix a large wobbly stone slab in the road, a three wheeler Ape pulls up, a man steps out with a bucket of cement and 10 minutes later a highly professional maintenance work is completed.
The Ape drives off, the job is done and nobody is any the wiser.
