Generally speaking to use the adjective “interesting” when describing an exhibition is to damn it with faint praise but not in this case.
An extremely interesting exhibition by Roberto Funai can now be seen in the Municipal Museum up by the Duomo in Barga Vecchia.
Le Antiche Porte di Barga – the ancient gateways into Barga – a series of canvases 70 x 50 cm depicting how probably the three gateways into the mediaeval city of Barga would have looked.
Using data gleaned from historical documents researched by Pier Carlo Marroni and Pier Giuliano Cecchi including a painting in the Cathedral depicting Barga in those times he has imagined just how the three gates would have been used and also how a tower running out side of the Duomo, now long demolished, might also have looked like.
An exhibition not to be missed in what is one of the finest but sadly under visited museums in the province – the Museo Civico del Territorio di Barga “Antonio Mordini”
