Following the tradition of performing concerts in beautiful and historic villages in the Garfagnana, Serchio dell Muse have three concerts this week.
The first is at Coreglia Antiminelli in the theatre “A Bambi”, starting at 21.00.
The earliest reference to Coreglia Antiminelli is found in the Archiepiscopal archives in Lucca dated 1048.
It is a town best known for its history of creating figurines from chalk. This was the main industry of the inhabitants during the 16th and 17th centuries, and there is a municipal museum in the town dedicated to this craftsmanship and to emigration.
The concert on Monday night the 12th August staring Linda Campanella, Matteo Pierone and Andrea Albertini on piano, features historic costumes and scenery.
On Wednesday the 15th of August there is a concert at Carregine.
This village is situated on a plateau at 882 metres and has a panoramic terrace overlooking the entire valley. Situated within the walls is one of the oldest Romanesque churches in Italy. The original construction was in 720 and the church has retained its medieval structure.
The concert will take place at the entrance to this church, of St Peter and St. Paul. It will feature opera arias with Angela Gandolfo, our well known Bruno Caproni, Alessandro Fatoni and Robert Barrali on piano.
There is another concert on Saturday the 17th August at 21.00 at Fosciandora, in the Vladimiro Zucchi room.
This town was the borderland for historic regions of the Garfagnana and the Lucchesi. It was fought over for centuries by various rulers, and fortifications and outposts are still evident today of these conflicts. The Ceserana Fortress, a Church – Castle was built in the 12th century and is decorated with an elegant apse and wooden statues, sculpted in the 14th century.
The concert will feature the Diffusion brass quintet, in collaboration with A.M.A. Cultura and the Pro Loco of Castiglione in the Garfagnana. The concert was conceived of and organised by, Matteo Marcalli, one of the members of the Serchio dell Muse committee.
As the two previous concerts of the Serchio delle Muse, at Casa Pascoli, at Castelvecchio Pascoli, and in Barga at the Loggia del Podesta, were performed to capacity audiences, I would suggest arriving a little early for the concerts this week.
