200 yellow bicycles put on the streets of Joensuu
Finland as a means of free transport, have all gone
missing. Why are they now turning up in various places
around the globe?

yellow bicycles are back on the streets of Joensuu
Finland as a means of transport. How did this happen?
After so much media attention around the world ( the
word "joensuu" in a search engine would bring the
result "yellow bikes" for instance ) a small group of
people at the North Karelia Polytechnic in Joensuu
decided to revive the 200 Yellow Bicycles of Joensuu
Project

Who were this group of people ?
How was it funded?
Why are there divers involved ?
What is the Yellow Bike Orchestra ?

For more information on how the divers are doing pulling the old bikes out of the river and what will the art-bikes trail involving 80 artists finally look like, please call in at :

P.S We would like to link to your site. Is this possible ? Thanks

The messages were sent out at 11.45, just over an hour later, the replies started to come in. It was indicative that the first reply came from Turku in Finland from a group who are also involved in using bikes for city transport and who are also involved in the
project of "organised coincidence" CRITICAL MASS . Well done Turku !

Itse innokkaana pyöräilijänä olen toki ilahtunut siiä, että keltaisten
polkupyörien projekti jatkuu/syntyy uudestaan.

Mitähän maalia käytitte? Oliko Miranolia vai Unicaa?
Sopisiko tällainen kommentti:

Yellow is a colour full of life and energy. It reminds us of the sun, flowers and fruit. It is a most suitable colour for city bikes that bring their users joy and a burst of energy. In fact, I cannot think of a better colour for this purpose.
Congratulations on a great project!

Beautiful, you have an excellent site. It is the work of people like you
who make the web a great place.
I think I have maybe even spotted one of the missing bikes as far away as
Seattle, USA!
You may of course link to or use my web page
(http://www.oz.net/~nic/cm.html) in any way you wish.

Hei,

Polkupyörien takaisin saaminen on hyvä tapa aloittaa.
Menestystä harrastuksellenne ja aurinkoista pyöräilysäätä!
Helsingissä, 30. kesäkuuta 2000
