Margins – my work on this project, will be based basically around the following area:Where the tree line ends and the mountainside begins. In other words, above the chestnut trees and above the area where the birch tree grows. It is where those birch trees stopped growing, either because the altitude is too high, the soil can not support the growth of large trees or other factors such as wind, erosion, not enough sunlight or other plant species have already taken the territory.It is always a special moment, as you push out from the trees onto the open space of the mountainside. It is really only once you leave the shelter of the trees, that the true experience of being on a mountain starts.There is maybe an old memory still locked in all of our brains, which reminds us that the trees mean shelter, warmth , companionship and the ability to hide from danger. Once in the open, we are on our own. We have to reset our thinking to a different system of rules, and adjust our behaviour to conform to those rules. Effectively, we have to work in a different way to how we normally behave. It is that changeover – that transition, as we move from one area to another – one way of thinking to another that interests me.

Margini è il mio lavoro per questo progetto sarà  basato unicamente circa la seguente area:

Dove finisce la linea degli alberi e la montagna comincia. In altre parole, al di sopra degli alberi di castagno e al di sopra dell’ area in cui cresce la betulla.

Si tratta di quella zona in cui le betulle cessano di crescere, sia perché la quota è troppo alta, sia perché il terreno non può sostenere la crescita di grandi alberi o per altri fattori come il vento, l’erosione, o per insufficiente luce del sole o perché altre specie di piante hanno già invaso il territorio.

Si tratta sempre di un momento speciale quando ti spingi fuori dagli alberi sullo spazio aperto della montagna. E’ unicamente solo quando lasci il rifugio degli alberi, che la vera esperienza di essere su una montagna comincia.

Vi è forse un’antica memoria ancora bloccata in tutti i nostri cervelli, che ci ricorda che gli alberi significano rifugio, calore, compagnia e capacità  di nascondere da situazioni di pericolo. Una volta allo scoperto, siamo soli con noi stessi.

Dobbiamo ripristinare il nostro modo di pensare verso un diverso sistema di regole, e regolare il nostro comportamento per conformarci a tali nuove norme.

Concretamente, dobbiamo lavorare in un modo diverso da come ci comporteremmo normalmente.

Si tratta di un passaggio, una transizione che, come ci spostiamo da una zona ad un’altra  cambia anche il modo di pensare in un altro modo che a me interessa.
