Welcome to barga sport – the barganews.com update on sporting events in and around Barga. Our aim is to develop a set of interlinked web pages for each sporting discipline (soccer, volleyball, swimming, karate … etc …) with game results and championship tables, calendar of events, team profiles, and reports from the various training grounds – including scoops “from behind the scenes”!For example: we will be following the trials and tribulations of the new A.S. Barga team manager, Paolo Moscardini, as he struggles to relaunch his side's fortunes and work their way up (or down) the league tables. We shall also keep our eye on the local junior female volleyball team which is currently at the top of its division. The local Karate association is alive and kicking and the swimming team has been making waves at a regional level too.
In the mean time, while our willing and able staff comes to grips with the new web page software (kindly donated by the barganews.com endowment for the furtherance of internet communications), we shall be publishing regular bulletins in this column – paving the way for the full service later in the season.
As chief sports editor I will be pleased to receive feed-back of this new barganews.com venture, not to mention contributions from any would-be sports correspondents on any event in or in some way connected with Barga (or not!).

The final score highlights the two teams lack of finishing skills and inability to exploit the few chances to score which their meagre tactics gave them. Barga has recently made some changes in their line-up but these still need to take effect. Here's hoping that Moscardini manages to make the necessary adjustments in time for the next round. BARGA: REFEREE: NOTES: | During the first half the home team managed to dominate the field; but by the start of the second half had dropped their guard somewhat, allowing Barga to counter attack. Notwithanding this Barga never really managed to impose themselves and a rather dissapointing game finished 0 - 0. Barga really need to work on their game and above all their finishing if they are to aspire to the level of the last season. There is no doubt that they have all the talent they need, both within the team and on the part of the coaching staff; but they still have to develop a more agressive, winning attitude, concentrating on constructive teamwork. PIETRASANTA: REFEREE: NOTES: | Clearly, after three consecutive losses, Barga's top priority was to turn over a new leaf and start climbing up from the bottom of the league table. This, to some extent, they managed to do against tough opposition from Pietrasanta. Much credit goes to both goal-keepers as they managed to stave off concerted attacks from the two sides. For the last 25' Barga played in ten due to Tonini being sent-off after reacting badly to fowl play from n° 5 Luisi. Next Sunday Barga are away to Filletto V., who have displaced Barga from the last place in the league table. FORZA BARGA !!! | ||||

Having started the season with high hopes after just missing out on promotion at the end of the last, Barga have played three and lost three. Next Sunday the team plays at home against Pietrasanta and needs to concentrate on re-creating the team-work and "feel" which in the recent past have guaranteed results and spectacle for the supporters. A bad start to the season for Barga, after the success and near promotion with which Paolo Moscardini's boys closed the last. Undoubtedly a heavy playing field - the result of almost continuous rain - and some dubious refereeing penalised the home team; but Montignoso displayed better organization on the field and probably deserved to win, even though in the second half Barga demonstrated more determination to attack the opposition's defence and, incredibly, had their equalising goal (it would have brought them level at 2 - 2) disallowed by the referee. OK, Ok, ... so it's been some time since we last updated these pages. It's been a long, hot summer and the barga sport staff writer just simply couldn't keep-up with the pace. On that note, if there are any budding sports reporters in the making who would like to contribute: get in touch with Beppe Mars. Now that the first Autumn showers have dampened the spirits of even the more intrepid visitors here in Barga, we can get back to the console and, at the very least, up-date you on the football results - all the more as the season has just started. | E va bene, va bene ... Un po' di tempo è passato dall'ultimo aggiornamento, ma l'estate è stata lunga e calda e il personale di barga sport non è riuscito a stare dietro a tutto e tutti. A proposito, se pensi di poter contribuire a questa rubrica (tenendo presente l'ormai legendaria ironia di barganews.com ce predilige evidenziare quelle situazioni e eventi che normalmente sfuggono ai rotocalchi ufficiali), perché non contattare Beppe Mars ? Adesso che le prime piogge autunnali hanno spento gli entusiasmi dei più intrepidi visitatori qui a Barga, possiamo rimetterci alla tastiera e, quantomeno, annotare i risultati delle partite di calcio - d'altronde la stagione è appena cominciata. |
