John Lennon fans to mark 30th anniversary of death. In his town Liverpool they staged several events honouring former Beatle killed outside New York apartment on 8 December 1980 Fans of John Lennon marked the passing of 30 years since he was murdered outside his New York apartment, triggering a wave of grief around the world. In Liverpool, home city of the Beatles, several events honoured the singer and political activist, with local musicians leading a candlelit vigil in Chavasse Park at the European peace monument, dedicated to Lennon on 9 October, which would have been his 70th birthday. Further homage was paid at the Lennon statue in Mathew Street, home of the Cavern, where the Beatles played some of their early gigs, and at the original Strawberry Field.
A concert – Lennon Remembered: The Nine Faces of John – was held at Liverpool’s Echo Arena, to bring to a close the city’s two-month Lennon tribute season.

And in Barga, the Shuffles, a Beatles tribute band played a romping Beatles set inside the Paolo Gas Bar, just outside the main gates of Barga Vecchia. The bar is not known for being one of the larger bars in Barga and so the boys from Livorno (another port city just like Liverpool) could have been excused for thinking that they were playing in the Cavern in Mathew Street, Liverpool. Cramped space but some great music.

NoOne – Beatles tribute band

The Piazza Angelio this evening was filled with the sound of the NoOne Beatles tribute band. Despite one or two technical problems they played a vigorous set to an enthusiastic audience some of which had even dressed for the occasion. And there really lies one of the problems of being a Beatles tribute band.

Just which particular era should you focus on because a band like the Beatles re-invented themselves a number of times. Moving from the mop topped rock ‘n’ roll of the post Hamburg days into Abbey Road, Sgt Pepper’s lifestyle, quickly sidestepping through the double white album and out of the more acid-based music into the final “Let it be” stage. So where should you focus?

The NoOne band decided to hop backwards and forwards through most of those stages leaving some of the audience a bit breathless at times along the musical journey.
