Casa Fontana, an historic 18th Century town house, within the mediaeval Barga Vecchia, close to one of the ancient gates to the walled city, has been renovated by a Scottish architect, to provide a comfortable family Pensione (B&B), with modern facilities and a sunny walled garden.
There are 6 double bedrooms with ensuite shower rooms or private bathrooms. All have beautiful views over the old town to the mountains beyond; two have balconies.
All the rooms have chestnut beam and terra cotta tiled ceilings, tiled floors and shuttered windows. Cool crisp white bedlinen promises comfortable nights. All rooms have central heating.
There is a small sitting room with a selection of books and magazines.
The cantina (wine cellar) has been renovated to provide a bright, airy breakfast room with chestnut beamed ceiling and glass doors leading across to the private walled garden which provides an ideal setting for a leisurely evening drink or al-fresco meal.
Traditional Tuscan Breakfasts including freshly baked bread, local prosciutto, cheeses and fruit is served in the cantina or may be taken in the walled garden. Packed lunches can be provided.
Sorry, but smoking is not permitted in the house or garden.
