Exhibition now on in the Galleria Comunale until 6th January showing how life used to be in this area up to a 100 years ago. The Gallery contains objects used in daily life from the kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and cantinas. They include many photographs of Barga showing just how the city has changed over the decades – surprisingly not that much if you look closely at the photographic images. The streets seem the same. Its just the people in them that look so different. Moreno Tognelli has been gathering these objects for many years and on occasions mounts such an exhibition using objects from his shop just below the Duomo but now maybe is the time for the city to think about a permanent exhibition of objects used in everyday life from the recent past.
The closing of Gino Popolani ‘s business last month (article here) which had been a part of the Barga landscape for more than 50 years has now meant that his extensive collection of vintage radios and tv’s is in danger of being scattered. How about a small museum in Barga Vecchia of these objects ?
We already have one of the finest small museums in the Province – Museo Civico del Territorio di Barga up at the Duomo (site here) but nothing really that explains and shows how life was in Barga during the last century. Would it be that difficult to set up ?
