The Lake Angels are the group of local men who every August make a “pilgrimage” across the mountains behind Barga and out of Tuscany into Emilia-Romagna on their trek down to Lago Santo. Their annual expeditions has been well documented on barganews ( articles here) What has also been well-documented has been their gradual conversion from a group of men intent on having a good time in a mountain retreat, to a well-organised group of people intent on raising money for charity – such as the water project in Kiruri – to supply water to families living in Kiruri, Rwanda.
Three large water containers – 20.000, 15.000 and 10.000 litres connected to 3 km of tubing are now supplying fresh drinking water to families and schools in Kiruri thanks to the work of the Lake Angels. (article here)
One of the guiding hands behind the scenes in this transformation of the Lake Angels has been those of Alessandro Gonnelli, well-known in this city as “Milton the Plumber” This weekend he celebrated 25 years of his very successful business and as usual he did it in style with a large party inviting many of his friends and colleagues and of course many of the Lake Angels.
Click on the link below to hear a short interview with Milton recorded during the party to hear just how happy the man was after all these years of dripping taps, burst pipes and failed boilers. ( in Italian)
