Our club is officially affiliated with the Celtic Supporters Association, and aims to be a strong focal point for every supporter and fan of the green half of Glasgow, a passion for the green and white hoops adopted by citizens of Barga, who, under difficult circumstances in the past emigrated in great numbers to Scotland, and along with their descendants, return each year to visit their country of origin. The reason for this pairing, which might seem bizarre and unusual to outsiders, is nevertheless simple and taken for granted, and can be written within the pages of a book whose purpose occasionally plays across events over a distant period of time. In fact, it was unavoidable that the story of Barga’s emigration would become involved passionately with the prestigious Celtic Football Club, founded in 1888 by Brother Walfrid in order to create funds for the poor Catholic communities of the east end of Glasgow populated by Irish immigrants.
Barga Celtic Supporters Club is thus one of the many expressions of a very particular territorial reality, a seed of an established and unbreakable bond between Barga and Scotland, which has old origins and has been strengthened over time. A marvellous union of remarkable humanity which has not developed only in one single direction for celebration. It has enabled to unite the sense of recognition of the town of Barga to the nation of Scotland along with the high regard the institutions of Scotland have for the community of Barga, and is a returned thank you by our citizens to the Scottish contribution.
It is therefore no surprise that under our old Chestnut trees of the Tuscan-Emilian Appennines, there thrives a further sense of belonging to an ancient world, pulsating with images derived from tartan colours and the war anthems that bagpipes have often launched against the invading English. It is not entirely difficult to travel through this background and find oneself physically catapulted into our modern era and rejoice at a goal scored against the loyalist and establishment club of Rangers.
If you wish to share this passion with us, the doors are open. Our mission will be to find a base where we can see Celtic games on television and gather socially over a few good pints of beer; organise trips to Glasgow to experience the games at the magnificent “Celtic Park” or as the Bhoys call it “Paradise”; and organise events which could lead to authentic missions of charity. All of this just to soak up the full essence and the true spirit of the fantastic world of Celtic Football Club.
