We have been publishing articles about Chairart 2010 all year – 20 white chairs and the 20 possibilities to decorate the chairs by 20 different people. Finally this week the travelling show came to Barga and obviously it was well worth waiting for as the Chairart exhibition in Barga Vecchia was visited by more people than any other exhibition this year and there is a good chance that the chairs have been the most photographed objects in the city this summer.
After three other exhibitions in Garfagnana, the finally stage for this year was to be in Barga. The original idea was to put a chair in every restaurant or bar in the city so that to see the whole complete exhibition the viewers will have to tour all the bars and restaurants in the city. Nice idea but not very workable.
In the end they were assembled all together in Piazza Angelio. It was also in that Piazza that the final evening took place with all the artists gathering together for a meal at the L’osteria where ideas for next years event were discussed. The vicesindaco of Barga, Alberto Giovanetti was present at the meal to pass on the good wishes of the Administration for future event.
The was some talk of organising an auction for the chairs of Chairart 2010 but at the end of the meal and the end of the event all but one artist picked up their chairs and took them home so it looks as though most of the artists could not part with their works of art after all.
