The article which was published yesterday entitled “Something to eat in Barga Vecchia ? – not today“, caused a considerable amount of polemic here in the city with two distinct sides being taken. One side taking the view that the fact that all the bars in Barga Vecchia were shut at the same time should not be publicised as it reflects badly on the city. The other side questioning just when is the right time for bars and restaurants to take their holiday.
In the middle there was also a disgruntled group of people who felt that they had been badly misrepresented.
These are the Reverberi family, owners of the Scacciaguai restaurant who quite rightly pointed out this morning, that yes, when the photographer went past at 11 am, Scacciaguai was shut as it a restaurant and not a bar but it opened up shortly after that to serve lunch and later in the day, evening meal.
In fact to as you can hear in the interview with Riccardo Reverberi , he and his staff had already decided that as it was obvious that many of the restaurants and bars would be shut for a good part of November, they instead would remain open right through the month and also right through December and into the New Year.
They will be taking their annual holiday sometime in January.
Every November for the past four years we have been publishing a story pointing out that the bars and restaurants in Barga Vecchia all seem to shut at the same time and getting something to eat or even just a coffee in the city becomes very difficult or on certain days, even impossible.
Last year we finished the article with the following words: “any visitor arriving in Barga Vecchia this morning will be forced to leave and eat elsewhere as there are no bars or restaurants open to the public. For a city hoping to base a good part of its future on sensible tourism, this is not a good message we are giving out.
Hopefully this will be the last time that this article will have to be published on barganews – somebody please, please take note and lets start discussions about this problem.”
Twelve months later and it would appear that absolutely nothing has changed as you can see from the images in the gallery below – every single bar and restaurant in Barga Vecchia was shut today. Full article here
