Here in Barga people have more or less got used to seeing Scottish weddings in the piazza – after all, this is the most Scottish town in Italy.
Over the years there have been many, many weddings with the participants sporting heather, tartan and of course, the men in kilts coming out of the Duomo or town hall to the sound of bagpipes. Just one look at the archives on giornaledibarganews will show you just how many there have been.
Yesterday there was another Barga – Scotland wedding but this time with a difference.
Instead of it taking place here in Barga, the son of one of the most traditional families in Barga married his Scottish bride at the Cruin on the shores of Loch Lomond in Scotland.
Gianmarco Marroni had already gone against the tide, so to speak, when he emigrated to Scotland a couple of years ago.
Yesterday he and his bride Jacqueline sealed the deal with a ceremony for just family and close friends who flew over from Barga to join the happy couple in their celebrations.
A quick look through the images taken at their wedding also show another Barga connection in Scotland as the musicians playing at the wedding, Hamish and Ken are well known in the piazza here.
