As I sit here in the office in Barga Vecchia writing this article, through the open window I can hear clearly note for note and word for word the trio Underground Vocals from Nyborg, Denmark running through their set up at the Gatti Randagi piazza in Piazza Crocifisso. (their site is here )
The singer and main composer of their songs Magnus Jenson writes and sings in more or less perfect English. And there we have one of those strange events that happens in Barga – a young Danish group playing in a mediaeval Tuscan city in Italy and singing in English. The international community that is Barga during the summer hardly even passes comment on events like this. In fact further down in Piazza Angelio, still playing are the T-Jays from Lo youndon – singing quite happily in English and in front of a large crowd who are clearly enjoying their music.
The rain which had threatened all day to put a stop to the event could only manage a few drops at dusk which brought out one or two umbrellas which barely stayed open for five minutes before once again the skies cleared and the music carried on regardless.
Questione di Minuti were flying the Italian flag with homegrown rock out on the Fosso at Paolo Gas’s bar On the other side of the city Sandra at the Lake Angels piazza at San Felice were singing some quieter melodies and some are in the middle in at P.zza Annunziata the Padophones were holding court.
All in all a complete mix of styles to suit all tastes – the Festa del Centro Storico – Live in Barga 2012 – Day 3.
