The journalist Stefano Elmi has been a regular contributor to barganews over the years with some fascinating stories about his home city Barga.
He would always go the “extra mile” to get that small personal touch, that added piece of information or viewpoint to each of his articles.
Now he is literally doing it again as after finishing his studies at the London School of Journalism, he and his long time cycling companion , Oriano Gigli are coming back home to Barga on bikes – 1300 miles and reporting about it all the way with daily instagram images and maps to show their progress.
Here in the comfy chairs and well ventilated office of barganews, we will be following their progress and giving our readers up to the minute (almost) reports of what they find on the way.
They left London on the 27th July and the following day reached their first objective – the Portsmouth International Ferry Port from which they could catch their ferry across the channel.
Since then nothing has been heard from our intrepid pair – could it be that they didn’t get a roaming contract for their cell phones and so once they had left the UK they have fallen into digital silence for the next three weeks ?
We hope not – watch this space
London – Portsmouth boat to Saint-Malo – Rennes – Le Mans – Tours – Chateauroux – Lyon – Grenoble – Barcellonette – Col du Larche/Colle della Maddalena – Cuneo – Savona – Genova – La Spezia – Cinquale – Passo del Cipollaio – Barga.
UPDATE: Latest from the pair – “rain, wind against us, cold but apart from that, level ground and even downhill”.
According to their map reference they have reached Mont St. Michel, France.
