The Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo – Sanremo Italian song festival is a popular Italian song contest, held annually in the city of Sanremo, in Italy, and consisting of a competition amongst previously unreleased songs.
In the aftermath of World War II, one of the proposals to revitalize the economy and the reputation of Sanremo was to create an annual music festival to be held in the city.
Usually referred to as Festival di Sanremo, or outside Italy as Sanremo Music Festival, it was the inspiration for the Eurovision Song Contest and has been running annually since 1951.
This week for many people with the connection to Barga there have been an added reason to remain glued to their TV set – none other than Barga’s Paolo Nutini on stage performing three songs – the first of which in Italiano.
The singer also presented to the Italian public for the first time ‘Scream (Funk My Life Up)’ the first cut to be lifted from his forthcoming third studio album Caustic Love.
Nutini recorded his new collection in Valencia, London, Glasgow and the USA, and co-produced the set with Dani Castelar.
Caustic Love serves as the follow-up to Nutini’s 2009 album Sunny Side Up, which was certified six times platinum in the UK.
