Andrea Salvetti last appeared on this site in May 2015 (article here) with an extremely interesting experiment – the Factory Food Feast, which took place in this design studio at Saltocchio just outside Lucca.

There was very little publicity before the event but through word of mouth and widespread contacts through out the area more than 500 people managed to get themselves onto the guest list before the event and gain entrance  to the sprawling design studios and join in the mixing of art and food – the Factory Food Feast 2015 – Incontri ravvicinati tra artisti, designer e cuochi nella studio-fucina di Andrea Salvetti. (his site is here)

This week he was back with his mix of food, art and ritual  – this time at the Anteprima vini della costa Toscana at the Real Collegio, Lucca with three chefs – Angelo Torcigliani, Damiano Donati and Sandra Bianchi and four fire sculptures set up in the grounds.

Prepared vegetables, bread dough which was allowed to rise and then bake and his pig roaster sculpture  “Maiale” (recently shown at the Center for Discovery in New York, USA) all set out each with individual charcoal fires slowly cooking them to perfection before being shared out to the participants of the Anteprima vini della costa Toscana.

Andrea Salvetti was born near Lucca on the 17th August 1967. He works in his sculpture and design studio at Saltocchio, just outside Lucca which opened in 1991, using a host of different materials and technologies, paying particular attention to fusion metals. Andrea not only designs but plays an active role in the creation of his artwork in his studio, believing in the testimony of his own work. His interests span across different themes and disciplines, from sculpture, design, architecture, performance and cookery. This eclecticism moves descriptions of Andrea’s work beyond straightforward definitions to a broader illustration of interconnected styles and disciplines. In the last few years, Andrea has produced a number of works in collaboration with art and design galleries both in Italy and abroad, such as Albero, Apparita, Mazzolin di fiori, with Dilmos, Nilufar and Moss. His pieces have been exhibited throughout the world in a variety of venues and contexts and have featured in numerous publications across a whole range of subjects. Electa published the “Terra Terra” monograph in 2007. He took part in the 48th Biennale d’arte di Venezia, exhibited works at the Focke Museum in Bremen and has held both solo and collective exhibitions and installations at Design Miami, Basle; PAD, Paris; Arte e fiera; ArtCurial and Sotheby’s.
