A couple of weeks ago there were five plane tree on the Fosso cut down due to the canker stain fungus (article here)
The sound of chainsaws could be heard once again in Barga Vecchia this morning as workers from the Centro Legno Ambiente started work cutting down the large dead cedar tree at the Piazza della Vittoria on the corner going down to the hospital.
“The Cedars know the history of the earth better than history itself.” Alphonse de Lamartine, French poet and historian (1790-1869).
The tree had been destroyed by the same fungus which took down the monumental Lebanese Cedar tree which had dominated the Fosso for around 180 years (article from 2004 here ) and was cut down in 2006
