Wreath laid for Festa dei Lavoratori

International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day in most countries and often referred to as May Day, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement and occurs every year on May Day (1 May).

So it was a fitting moment this morning when two councillors from the Comune of Barga laid a wreath to commemorate a work accident 16 years ago which cost the life of a 24 year old worker.

In the absence of a dedicated monument, the councillors, Feniello and Salvoni deposited a wreath in the historic center of Barga, where, back in May of 2005, Florentin Constantin, aged 24, suffered very serious injuries following an accident at work on a construction site without security measures, only to die the next day at the Santa Chiara hospital in Pisa.

According to Feniello, 1st May should be a significant date in which to keep alive the memory of all fallen workers and renew the struggle to guarantee decent and safe work for all.
