New art installation – I pozzi di Tiglio

With Covid restrictions making it difficult or impossible for exhibitions in the normal spaces like galleries and museums, enterprising artists have started thinking about changing the areas where they can exhibit their creativity and moving outside into the open.

Here in Barga during the covid 19 crisis, Romano from Bagni Di Lucca has been working right through the year with his land art in Parco Buozzi – (article here) and this week comes news of a new installation just outside of Barga up at Tiglio.

Il Lavatoio – public wash house
Il lavatoio è un luogo, spazio o costruzione per fare il bucato. In precedenza i villaggi avevano lavatoi pubblici, dove le donne, come incaricate della famiglia, lavavano la biancheria sporca.

Before the introduction of running water in homes, the population had a public wash house where women went to do their laundry. Washrooms were also places where people went to socialize and talk.

Gioconda Lorenzini from the Cerretelli Agriturismo – bed and breakfast in Tiglio has been working right through the winter on transforming the public wash house – Il Lavatoio, into a stunning art installation containing images specially printed on plastic panels mounted across the walls of the wash house.
