Jazz window in Barga Vecchia

The Barga Jazz Festival 2021 starts in earnest today and to help celebrate the event which was born in 1986 on the initiative of the Barghigiano, Giancarlo Rizzardi, local artists Manuela Bollati and Manuela Giannasi have been “jazzing up” their creative production and have fitted out one of the central windows in Barga Vecchia with paintings and objects with a distinct jazz feel.

On August 18th the Reunion Big Band directed by Roberto Rossi will pay tribute to a great friend of Bargajazz who died prematurely, Marco Tamburini. The orchestra, which will perform Marco’s compositions and arrangements, is made up of musicians who have collaborated on his projects over the years.

Dario Cecchini, Fabio Petretti, Pietro Tonolo, Piero Odorici and Manuel Caliumi on sax, Luca Marianini, Andrea Guzzoletti, Diego Frabetti and Davide Ghidoni on trumpets, Andrea Angeloni, Riccardo Tonello, Paolo Acquaviva, Carlo Giannini on trombones, Stefano Onorati on piano, Paolo Ghetti on double bass and Stefano Paolini on drums.

Marco Tamburini has participated in many editions of the Bargajazz Festival playing in the orchestra and with Barga he realised in 2014 the production “Voce di Vento” on behalf of the European project “Sonata di Mare”.

THE BARGA JAZZ FESTIVAL

The Barga Jazz Festival is a jazz musical event held in the summer in Barga, in the province of Lucca. The Festival includes, in addition to the concerts, the International Arrangement and Composition Competition for Jazz Orchestra, the Barga Jazz Contest, educational activities and some collateral events.

The Festival was born in 1986 on the initiative of the Barghigiano Giancarlo Rizzardi. Initially the performances took place at the Cinema Roma, located in the new part of the country. Since 1999, once the restoration has been completed, the event takes place inside the eighteenth-century Teatro dei Differenti, in the historic center – their site is here
