Suzanne L. Roberts – Pop-up art exhibition

Suzanne L. Roberts (1957) is an American artist currently residing Cabot, Vermont USA.

Her series of paintings focusing on Barga are based on impressions from visits and a deep ancestral connection to the area. Her great great grandmother Vittoria Maria Margherita Nardini was born in Barga, the daughter of Antonio Nardini and Teresa Mazzolini.

Following the death of Antonio in 1892, Teresa emigrated from Barga to America in September 1893 taking Vittoria with her. The trip was sponsored by Teresa’s brother Pietro Mazzolini who had emigrated to America from Barga earlier. They settled in the Boston area. Sadly, Teresa Mazzolini died in 1899 leaving Vittoria (now known as Victoria Mary Nardini), an older sister, Quintilla, and an older brother, Filippo (Philip), orphans. The girls were boarded with separate families in the Boston area, likely with some financial support from Pietro Mazzolini, while Philip who was about 15 at the time began working.

Upon finishing school in Concord, Massachusetts, Victoria obtained a position teaching school in rural Vermont. Several family members were in Vermont at this time. including her uncle, Pietro Mazzolini, who was operating a fruit business in St. Albans. In November 1910, Victoria married Raymond Wallace Lamberton in Cabot, Vermont. Their son John Frederick Lamberton is Suzanne’s grandfather.

Suzanne’s Barga ancestors also include the following family names: Marchetti, Diversi, Togneri, Conti, Arrighi, Sermani, Vincenti, Castelvecchi, Marchi, Mariani, Marganti, Bonanni
