Caffè Capretz is a bistro in the heart of the historic center of Barga where the flavors of international and contemporary cuisine meet the roots of the territory. In addition to the rich gastronomic offer and the beautiful location, the restaurant has a long history behind it: founded in 1870 by the Swiss family from which it took its name, in many years of uninterrupted opening it has breathed the arts in their many facets.
Here the poet Giovanni Pascoli came as a regular customer, who with the Capretz family forged a relationship of sincere friendship. On the terrace stood the Barghigiano painter Alberto Magri who left wonderful images of the place and the square in his paintings.
In these rooms at the dawn of the twentieth century the first film projections were made; at the tables the foreign singers and musicians of Opera Barga introduced, more than half a century ago, the tradition of the 5 o’clock tea.
Our will is to continue to follow this path: the Capretz is not just a restaurant business but wants to be a space where the arts express themselves in all their plurality and in all their power.
These rooms are already the meeting point of many artists from the national and international cultural scene who find here a moment of exchange and conviviality. But at the Capretz art and knowledge take voice and body not only at the table: by hosting the works and works of painters and sculptors along the walls and halls, the Capretz is proposed as a collection of art and beauty.
Over the course of the year, curated by Giorgia Madiai, we will periodically propose exhibitions that give color and lymph to these environments and to our project.

Avere un proprio sistema estetico è un fondamento di vita, un riverbero di se stessi nel mondo, una deriva, che nei momenti più instabili ed incerti, affina l’arte del vivere.
Nella poetica di Vincenzo Lipari il piacere visivo è un valore indiscusso, i suoi emblemi non sono mai violati nel carattere simbolico che la Storia gli ha attribuito. A Vincenzo non interessa la facile rielaborazione delle icone Pop che ha trionfato ed ecceduto nel Novecento. Infatti non è una questione di riproducibilità tecnica ma di pathos elettromagnetico. Perché i pixels e l’addizione dei colori digitali stravolgono ogni tavolozza tradizionale e l’artista può compiere il gesto divino di sparire aldilà. Vincenzo si smaterializza e proietta la sua coscienza visiva oltre il suo corpo fisico e dipinge un’insolita bellezza per i suoi archetipi con gli stessi impulsi elettronici e le stesse lunghezze d’onda con cui la luce imprime la retina della sua sensibilità cromatica. – Da Nerina per Vincenzo.
