Military aircraft flying low in the area

Many have wondered what was happening this week in the skies over Barga with military aircraft flying through the valley at extremely low altitudes.

It is an exercise between the Italian and Belgian Air Forces, called ‘Heavy alloy 22’, being carried out at the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and which will continue until 28 October.

The purpose of the exercise is apparently to verify and increase interoperability in the field of military air transport between the two nations, both adhering to the European Air Transport Command, standardising air transport operations and sharing flight techniques and tactics.

The crews of the 46th Air Brigade with C-130J and C-27J aircraft and the crews of the Belgian Air Force with three Airbus A-400M aircraft participated in the training event ands personnel from the Italian Army collaborate in the exercise.
