“When the air current rises, it expands and cools. If the moisture it contains is lost (in the form of clouds and/or precipitation), as it falls on the opposite side, it reaches the valley with a higher temperature than its starting point. This creates a sometimes stormy warm wind.”
This is known as a Föhn wind, a warm and dry wind that occurs when an air current loses some of its moisture as it passes over a mountain range, often resulting in precipitation such as rain or snow.
The name Föhn is sometimes used in reference to a type of hair dryer due to the warm, dry air it creates.

Föhn* è un vento di caduta caldo e secco che si presenta quando una corrente d’aria, nel superare una catena montuosa, perde parte della propria umidità in precipitazioni (pioggia, neve o altro).
Quando la corrente sale verso l’alto l’aria si espande, raffreddandosi. Se l’umidità in essa contenuta viene persa (sotto forma di nuvole e/o precipitazioni), l’aria, nel ricadere sul versante opposto arriva a valle con una temperatura più alta di quella di partenza.
Ciò dà origine a un vento caldo a volte tempestoso.
