Concert organised by the Barga Jazz Club in memory of Geoffrey Collins-White
Geoffrey Collins-White was born in 1944 in the UK and passed away in Barga on 5 August 2024.
A successful businessman, he sold his plastics moulding company and, together with his wife Brenda, retired to begin a new chapter in Barga. Having spent many holidays in Italy and developed a deep affection for the country, they chose not the seaside or a bustling city, but a small house in the hills above Barga. They bought the property in 1999 and spent years lovingly restoring it into their home.
Music had always been a passion for Geoff. He had played gigs in England for many years with his band Grizzly, developing a particular love for country music. Retirement in Italy gave him the freedom to fully embrace this passion, performing regularly with friends and fellow musicians across the region.
Following his passing, a group of those close to Geoff came together to organise a special live concert featuring music played by many of the friends and musicians who had shared his musical journey.
The center piece for the whole evening was the group which started the concert – the band which Geoff created in Barga back in 2003 – Jacks Pack.
Although they had not played together for many years and in fact some of the original members were now living in England and Spain, they had all answered the call and put on a stunning musical event for what was a packed Barga Jazz Club.

Geoffrey Collins-White è nato nel 1944 nel Regno Unito ed è scomparso a Barga il 5 agosto 2024.
Imprenditore di successo, vendette la sua azienda di stampaggio di materie plastiche e, insieme alla moglie Brenda, si ritirò per iniziare un nuovo capitolo della sua vita a Barga. Dopo aver trascorso molte vacanze in Italia e sviluppato un profondo affetto per il paese, scelsero non il mare o una grande città, ma una piccola casa sulle colline sopra Barga. Acquistarono la proprietà nel 1999 e passarono anni a restaurarla con amore, trasformandola nella loro casa.
La musica è sempre stata una passione per Geoff. Aveva suonato per molti anni in Inghilterra con la sua band, i Grizzly, sviluppando un amore particolare per la musica country. La pensione in Italia gli diede la libertà di abbracciare pienamente questa passione, esibendosi regolarmente con amici e musicisti in tutta la regione.
Dopo la sua scomparsa, un gruppo di persone a lui vicine si è riunito per organizzare un concerto dal vivo speciale, con musica suonata da molti degli amici e musicisti che avevano condiviso con lui il percorso musicale.
Il fulcro della serata è stato il gruppo che ha aperto il concerto: la band che Geoff fondò a Barga nel 2003 – i Jacks Pack.
Anche se non si esibivano insieme da molti anni, e alcuni dei membri originali vivevano ormai in Inghilterra e in Spagna, hanno risposto tutti all’appello, regalando un evento musicale straordinario a un Barga Jazz Club gremito di pubblico.
