A. Vivaldi. This was transmitted Friday 20 July 2001 and will be repeated on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July 2001

Arsilda -Regina di Ponto di A. Vivaldi, opera in three acts composed in 1715 but only performed towards the end of 1716 due to censorship. The third of Vivaldi's operas, it has a very interesting libretto by Domenico Lalli that revolves around the fate of two twins, boy and girl, with the girl having to take the boy's place on the throne, as he is believed dead, and marry Arsilda, who, passionately in love, wonders why her husband does not take advantage.
One of the few Vivaldi operas with a complete original score, barring the effects of censorship, the Barga production will follow the new critical edition to be published by the Istituto di Studi Vivaldiani of Venice - Fondazione Cini, by Federico Maria Sardelli, the leader and conductor of the Modo Antiquo Ensemble, who are co-producers of this production following the success of Juditha Triumphans in the cathedral last year.
Direction: Davide Livermore - Sets and Costumes: Santi Centineo
The Modo Antiquo Ensemble was nominated in 1997 and 1999 for the International Grammy awards for recordings of Vivaldi and Corelli.
First production in modern times
