As we wrote a week ago; the 30th Ciocco Rally ended with Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi in their Mitsubishi Lancer taking the winning honours in 2 hours 15 minutes of driving through the narrow roads in Garfagnana and above Barga. As we also wrote, what had not yet ended though was the clear up operation that was needed to restore the valley to its original condition before the rally. Many places were still littered with beer bottles, rubbish and the metres and metres of plastic tape used to direct the drivers along the correct routes. The rally was finished, the drivers, cars, mechanics, journalists and supporters had all returned home but their rubbish still remained. 7 days later, most of the rubbish is still there, although some of it has been moved out of sight – it has now been dumped in the stream. I am not sure what one of the sponsors for the Ciocco Rally would be thinking if they could see their name, logo and brand colours dumped below the road in the stream. Now it could be that the wind was the culprit …. but did the wind move those beer bottles below the plastic banners as well ? What ever, it makes little difference really, the important thing now is to get this mess cleaned up.
