3 cranes block Tiglio road for the afternoon

Something strange happens whenever cranes are moved in Barga or so it would seem looking back over a couple of articles on barganews. In June of last year a crane blocked Barga Vecchia for a day (article here) and earlier on in the season in March 2007 two cranes blocked the main road through Barga Giardino (article here) Today a record was set when the road to Tiglio was blocked for most of the afternoon not by one or two but three. It all started quite simply enough when a crane which was being loaded onto a low loader slipped off the lorry and overturned in the middle of the road.

It took another crane to get the 70 ton beast back onto its wheels and another larger mobile crane from Castlelnuovo to hoist it safely back on to the low loader. Traffic was stopped in both directions for a number of hours during the afternoon while this procedure took place.

What was very interesting to see, apart from all over hullabaloo of numerous crane operators, lorry drivers and members of the local police force sorting out the mess, was just how quickly some members of the community sorted out the problem of not being able to pass with their cars. In at least two cases people just simply swapped their cars with other people who were in the same position but with their cars on the other side of the blocked road. No doubt arranging to meet afterwards when the road was clear.

Simple solution.

May I praise the barganews reporter who wasn’t able to use the barganewsmobile to reach the scene of the accident and was hence forced to climb one of the steepest hills in barga.
He was a little puffed when he arrived but soon got enough breath back to correct the local GPS system’s database.
