The final dates were published this morning for the Barga Jazz Festival 2008. Guest of honour will be David Liebman, one of the foremost contemporary saxophone players who has been active on the international Jazz scene since the early ’70s
Together with the BargaJazz Orchestra Liebman will play arrangements and compositions written especially for him by the participants of the competition,

whilst on the 27th of August there will be a quartet performance of Liebman together with of some of the very best Italian Jazz musicians: Alessandro Fabbri on drums, Alessandro Galati on piano and Ares Tavolazzi on doublebass.

As for every edition, the composition is articulated according to different categories:
(A) arrangements
(B) original compositions
(C) new composers (in collaboration with the Siena Jazz Seminars)
(D) new groups
Sections A, B, C will take place the 28th, 29th, and 30th of August at the Teatro dei Differenti in Barga. Section D will take place the 25th and 26th of August in the gardens of the Istituto Superiore di Istruzione in Barga. Included within Section D the ‘Luca Flores’ prize for best soloist newcomer will be awarded.
As well as the competition, BargaJazz_Festival_2008 envisages many other appointments between June and November: itinerant concerts in various municipalities following the scheme of the traditional “Girando alla Tonda/Turn Around” musical voyage of discovery of the Garfagnana and Lucca province – an open invitation to investigate places of particular natural beauty and cultural interest whilst enjoying a concert of the highest quality.
