London band T-Jays wow the Piazza Angelio
Triumphant return to Barga for the London band the T-Jays. They were here last exactly 1 year ago this week when they played a stunning set at the Lake Angels piazza (article here) It has to be said that not many people actually saw that concert but those who did remember it fondly and looked forward to the return of the band this year.
They came back with a vengeance – filling the Piazza Angelio with a happy dancing crowd who joined in and sang along with their songs. Without a doubt the best concert in the Piazza this year.
One wonders what they can can come up with next year ?
Singer Joe is an actor whose film credits include Gladiator – due to his mellifluous voice and uncanny Elvis impersonations, he goes by the stage name of Hovis Presley – to be seen to be believed… The babe-magnet of the group, without a doubt.
When lead guitarist Ted Rees isn’t saving the financial world from IT disaster, you can find him behind his trademark Taylor acoustic kicking out the calibre of melodic lead work that Dave Gilmour certainly doesn’t.
His ability to improvise is legendary… as is his penchant for brown M&Ms. Solid as a rock, he’s the true backbone of the trio.
Rhythm guitarist Jeremy White can be found in Barga from time to time, as his old man fronts blues combo Jack’s Pack – and Jeremy’s been known to step up for some serious backing vocals – just to help babbo out of course.
Taught to play guitar by Geoff’s brother Trevor – the extraordinary axeman of former Sparks fame (who’s also graced the same stage as Jack’s Pack) – Jeremy never looked forward and has steadfastly continued to make the same charismatic mistakes that have now become his modus operandi. Harmonies are one of the group’s specialties.
“When they sing together, I want to cry.” – Tony Bennett.
They think it was a compliment, but are not sure. Joe Lead vocals and Percussion | Ted Guitar Backing Vocals | Jeremy Guitar Backing Vocals

What a great time. Their rapport with the audience is something you very, very seldom witness these days. Who was the older bloke on the harmonica? He even dances pretty well up on the stage.
Strange thing is that the best part of what remained from the old piazzette — the small groups scattered about town — is what’s missing this year. Makes no sense.
excellent!
it was a blast for me to finally see and hear a full length set from the lads and a privilege to be called upon to help out with their stage set-up
definitely the best gig the piazzette have seen for a long time
absolute professionalism and dedication to their public: a passionate display
can’t wait for the next gig!
Thanks for your kind words.
On behalf of the band we would like to thank everyone involved in what was a very enjoyable night. The best sound team we’ve worked with and a great audience (once the flying ants disappeared).
Not sure that the sound clip does us justice. Were we really playing that fast?
