As we have already published in other articles (here) the continuing bad weather in the region just keeps on coming.
Last night there was heavy snow forecast which luckily thanks to a warmer front coming in from the South, did not materialise.
Instead there was rain and yet more rain.
Landslides blocked two roads in to Barga three days ago. These were cleared and the roads re- opened the same day but this morning the main road into Barga from Loppia was once again closed to traffic.
Torrential rain had weakened the stone walls and terracing above the road at Loc. Palmente bringing many tons of mud and rocks down into the road.
This morning a whole section of about 20 metres looked as though it was ready slip down as a lone mechanical digger was at work attempting to clear the debris but as the mud and rocks were cleared from the base of the wall, more arrived from above.
No news so far as to when the road will be reopened to traffic.
