Large Porcini mushrooms
The locations of good porcini areas are fiercely kept secret and handed from father to son. People leave their houses at dawn (and even before) to make sure that they are the first up on mountain in search of the elusive funghi. So it comes as a bit of surprise that one of the Lake Angels founders and wild mushroom expert who has a house up on the side of the hill in an area famous for its porcini mushrooms was pipped to the post today as a porcini weighing a kilo was brought down after it had been picked not 100 metres from his house…. and to add to the insult , it was spotted and picked by another Lake Angel. Images of the mushroom were brought down to the barganews office this afternoon by the finder, eager to show the world (and the other Lake Angels) just what can grow near to the house – all you have to do is keep your eyes open. This evening there was that unmistakable tantalising fragrant smell of fried fresh porcini in the air.
