On the first Sunday after the 4th November, an important historical date for Italy, when people celebrate the 1918 armistice that ended the First World War, there is usually a ceremony held just outside the main gates of Barga Vecchia, to lay wreathes for the fallen.
This morning, torrential rain did not stop the ceremony taking place as the Alpini raised the flag and placed two wreathes on the monument. One from the Comune of Barga and the other, a wreath of poppies from twinning friends in Preston, Seton and Gosford, East Lothian, Scotland.
